BY FOOT OR MACHINE
Springwood has it covered! Whether you're hiking, snowshoeing or heading out on an ATV or a snowmobile... there is no shortage of trails for you to discover.
We actually have a private trail network here on the Springwood property that can keep you busy, and it boasts some spectacular scenery and wildlife! A moderate to advanced ride for ATVs and snowmobiles though, so experience is a must. Please have fun, but always think of your safety first.
Not far north, BUCKSHOT LAKE TRAIL is a long, challenging hiking trail leading through and around Bon Echo Provincial Park. And BON ECHO CREEK TRAIL is an easier trek which follows the creek to Lower Mazinaw Lake and its world-renowned Mazinaw Rock. Both are well worth a visit!
To the east, running through Sharbot Lake is the CENTRAL FRONTENAC TRAILWAY-- a 35 kilometer stretch of the old CP rail corridor from Glen Tay to Tweed. In the village itself, you can also do some shopping and grab a bite to eat.
These are only a few examples of the COUNTLESS networks of hiking and rECREATIONAL trails in the area. If that's your thing, you'll definitely need to extend your vacation if you want to see it all!
Do not go where the path may lead you... go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
PREPAREDNESS = FUN
Regardless of your enthusiasm or your outdoor skill level, the best way to enjoy the trails is by being well prepared!
Most visitors remember to pack their favourite gadgets and convenience items, but often overlook a few small things that can make a big difference, and are more commonly needed than you may realize.
A TICK REMOVAL TOOL is one of them. Nobody wants to think about it, obviously, but the trails are where you will encounter the most ticks... so have an effective tool with you at all times. Bug spray might be something you want, while we're talking about it.
A good FLASHLIGHT is a smart move too, even during daytime activities. And these expanding, reusable CLOTH TABS are something that we think should be in everyone's backpack! So you can check out those (affiliate) links and plan ahead, or you can visit the SPRINGWOOD STORE when you get here!
Always dress for the possible weather and wear activity-appropriate clothing, gear and footwear. And please remember to take lots of water and hearty snacks on your trail journeys. But most important... HAVE FUN!
